Age: 37
Class: Legends Pro-Division
Michelle Black has lived in Alaska since 1980. She moved here with her Dad who worked on the pipeline. Michelle graduated from East High School in 1988 and became a hairdresser. Michelle has worked in the beauty industry for 19 years now. She never dreamed of driving a race car, but when the chance came, she could not say no. When Michelle won her first trophy, she was hooked! Michelle started in just a women’s division and after winning the State Champion title two years in a row for JAGS (Just All Girls), she had to move up. Michelle stood up to the challenge and become the first women to race against the men full time. Michelle has since received many awards in this division and hopes to continue for many years to come.
Michelle has became the first women at a National level to win her division, not once but three times now. In 2001 and 2002 she won the Semi-Pro State Champion, in 2004 she won the Pro State Champion. No other women has done this for their state.
This was also another exciting year for Michelle. In March 2004, she married her crew chief and long time friend. Now Michelle and her husband, Bud Black, also have another car on the team. Michelle’s brother Cyrus is racing Bandoleros, hoping to move up to Legends this year.
